The sunset of reality
Just look at any public place in any of the world's cities. Everywhere, we find people with their heads down looking at the small screens of their smartphones. However, there seems to be little awareness of the changes that the media can induce on our ways of conceiving and experiencing the world. Contemporary media in particular owe much of their success to their ability to create a more pleasant and convincing world than the real one. A world that is free of defects and problems. But if the world that attracts us is the one inside the screens, will we still need to have our experiences directly? Will the reality, the real one, still make sense to us?
