IULM University confirms its central role as a cultural hub for the city of Milan, consolidating its position as a point of reference in Milan's cultural scene.
Starting in September 2024, the "IULM for the City" initiative will resume: it consists in a series of free lectures open to all citizens that will address fundamental topics related to the world of communication.
The teachings of "IULM for the City" will be recognized as choice teachings for 6 CFUs (University Educational Credits) for students enrolled in IULM University's Bachelor's and Master's degree programs. The course "Psychoanalysis of Art," taught by psychoanalyst Massimo Recalcati, will explore the tools of psychoanalytic doctrines (Freud and Lacan) that can illuminate creative processes. How can artistic creation be interpreted in light of the unconscious? What relationship exists between sublimation and mourning? References to the art of poetry and the work of Shakespeare round out the program. The course is open to all members of the public and students of second-level studies
The course "Anthropology of Food" -taught by journalist and food and wine critic Annalisa Cavaleri-will take participants on a journey of discovery of ancient rituals and symbols related to food and world religions, up to the most current marketing projects of starred chefs. The course is open to all citizens and students of first-level study courses
Gianni Canova, in the course "History of Italian Cinema," will stimulate critical reflection on the aesthetic, linguistic, production and communicational models that have influenced Italian mass culture, through the analysis of some masterpieces of Italian cinema. The course is open to all citizens and students of undergraduate courses.
Angelo Panebianco, in the course "Theory of International Relations," will offer a comprehensive view of the main orientations and theories of past and present international relations. The course is open to all citizens and students in second-level study courses.
Roberto Vecchioni and Stefania Mancuso will teach the course "The Contemporaneity of the Ancient," which will explore how antiquity influences the creation of contemporary imagery through archaeology, literature, poetry and music. The course is open to all citizens and students in undergraduate courses.
Manager and entrepreneur Pierfrancesco Barletta will teach the course "Sports Communication," examining sports from the perspective of communication and marketing. The course will be open to all citizens and students in first-level studies courses.
Nicoletta Polla-Mattiot will teach a course entitled "Ecology of Silence," aimed at investigating silence as a profound form of communication. In an increasingly loud and logorrhoeic world, where speech often becomes an expression of a self-referential and self-centered ego, the concept of silence as art, as an "act of recognition of the other" and as a "pause that gives life to speech," appears revolutionary. This is the theme covered in the course by journalist and essayist Polla-Mattiot, whose book Rediscovering Silence. Art, Music, Poetry, Nature between Listening and Communication has been chosen as one of the tracks of the type B "argumentative text" for the first written test of the 2024 Maturity exam. The course is open to all citizens and students of first level studies
Finally, TV director and artistic director Davide Rampello will hold the course "Arts and Crafts of the Territories, " during which he will present the heritage of cultural goods in all its richness and diversity, in terms of both arts and crafts (farmers, cheesemakers, carpenters etc.) and ecosystems (mountains, plains, cities, sea, fresh water). Through the analysis, study and narration of these realities, the relationship and role of the artisan in a specific territory and the protection of the latter will be understood. The course is open to all citizens and students of undergraduate courses
